It appears the media will need something else to obsess on as Brett Favre has announced he is staying retired for good. "FavreGate 2009" seems to be winding down in anticlimactic fashion as Brett Favre announces he will not be coming back to play football in the NFL for the 2009 season.
It was the hardest decision I've ever made, Favre, 39, said. I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. I would like to thank everyone, including the Packers, Jets and Vikings but, most importantly, the fans.
Favre added:
"I had to be careful not to commit for the wrong reasons, Favre said. They were telling me, You went through all this, you had the surgery and you've got to finish it off. But I have legitimate reasons for my decision. I'm 39 with a lot of sacks to my name."
As we are all too aware, Minnesota had been toying with the idea of bringing in Brett Favre to be the "final piece of the puzzle". Minnesota has a powerful defense and an even more powerful running game and the QB position seems to be the only lacking spot. They brought in Sage Ronsenfels this summer and already have Tavaris Jackson, both are considered under-experienced and under-powered quarterbacks.
Jackson and Rosenfels will now battle to see who gets to hand the ball off to Adrian Peterson, the Vikings star running back. |
